Trip Reports

This was Casey Zeik's first tournament and he caught several nice fish including this 19" smallmouth. There were about 15 boats in the tournament and we won with 20lbs 8oz for five fish. Our two biggest fish including a 5lb 8oz kicker were released before this photo was taken. We had a great night and caught a lot of fish on several different baits. Most of our good fish were caught on or outside the weedline in 14 to 20 feet of water. We caught fish on texas rigs, rock jigs, crank baits and jig worms.

Fished in Denny's Super 30 tournament on Monday and it took over 27 lbs for 8 bass to make the money. We ended up in third place with 29 lbs even and made a nice move up in the team of the year standings. We got all of our fish on jigs and texas rigs in 7 to 14 feet of water. There were three good schools that we got most of our fish from but the 5 lber was a loner on the way in to one of the spots. The fishing is really good right now and should only get better as we head into August.

The metro bluegill bite is on! I fished both Saturday and Sunday on the lake.
Saturday morning the bite was slow. Because my time was limited to early morning I chose to fish 2 areas. Each area offered up weeds from 6-13 feet and each area was conneted to a deep water basin. Most of the fish I caught were light biters except for the crappies they come in and eat. Fish were located in 9-14 feet in low lying coon tail type weeds. I had to drill a zillion holes and work them fast. If I did not see a fish in 30 seconds I moved holes. I had to downsize my presentation too. A 1/64 Marmooska did most of the work. Guessing I caught 15 bluegills and I know I had 4 crappies.

Well, I'm glad that's over. We finished in 2oth place today with 8 fish for just over 20lbs. It took about 23 lbs to make the $ and 26+ to win. Congratulations to Mike Vinci and Paul Neuman for the victory. Due to our low finish we got bumped out of the tournament of champions by just a few points as well.
