Finally made it out on Tonka chasing after some walleyes. We set up on a rock finger that I had marked this summer while bass fishing. Whenever I find something that looks good for walleyes while prefishing I always try to put an icon on it. This gives me a specific starting point and saves a lot of time. We put the house in 15 feet right on the end of the rocks. We drilled holes out to 21 feet and back along the finger to the weeds. The perch were thick in almost every hole so hopes were high for the dusk bite. The perch finally stopped biting around 5pm. We got our first walleye a little after 5 and it was about 8 inches long. Nothing else came through in the house so we moved around the holes outside. We managed to jig up a couple of decent walleyes(13",16") but it was very slow. One more 8"er as we were getting ready to leave around 7pm. It was slow but I really like going out to places where no one else has been. The word around the lake is that people are getting a few eyes each night and a lot of fish are coming out of 15' to 35' of water. We were on the south side of Big Island and had about 8 inches of ice which was enough for two fat guys on a four wheeler. *FYI* I took the kids out to St Louis bay to check on our permanent house earlier in the day. A truck w/plow went through the ice at the access right up to the top of the hood. Someone had plowed a road out to the main lake past our house which was on only 7 inches of ice. Ice conditions and thickness vary greatly. Be safe and good luck.
