The metro bluegill bite is on!  I fished both Saturday and Sunday on the lake.

Saturday morning the bite was slow. Because my time was limited to early morning I chose to fish 2 areas. Each area offered up weeds from 6-13 feet and each area was conneted to a deep water basin. Most of the fish I caught were light biters except for the crappies they come in and eat. Fish were located in 9-14 feet in low lying coon tail type weeds. I had to drill a zillion holes and work them fast. If I did not see a fish in 30 seconds I moved holes. I had to downsize my presentation too. A 1/64 Marmooska did most of the work. Guessing I caught 15 bluegills and I know I had 4 crappies.

On Sunday the fish were much more active and ate my 1/16 Shrimpo with no problem. The active fish were super located....meaning these active fish were in 12 feet of water and sitting on a specific patch of weeds. I sat on a single hole for over an hour catching bluegills from 6-8.5 inches on every drop. This particular area offered up only a single crappie. In the area I targeted I drilled about 40 holes...only 4 holes were productive. It pays to work an area hard!
