Are they biting today?
The story has been told many times of the old bait shop owner that is asked hundreds of times per week “are they biting today?” to which he always replies fish eat every day! And it is true fish eat every day. That being said everyone has ran into a bad day here and there. I have fished with a Marcum camera for around seven years now and viewing the fish teaches you a lot about how active they will be that day. Some days the panfish will scatter when a large predator moves in, and other days the casually swim away. Watching the fish’s behavior teaches you a lot about how and when they feed. In my opinion light period changes are the key, once the sun hits the tip of the trees it’s prime time! Tough conditions weather it be a low-pressure system or cold front can present challenges but often times switching your technique or strategy during the tough times often makes the difference. I have fished tournaments in the past and on days that I struggle others come in with huge bags and vice versa. The one thing I have learned is that fish eat every day so I can’t blame them when I have a bad day!
